Hundreds of Frames.
One place to get them made.
Most optical retailers separate the frame-shopping experience from the lens-making process. You pick your frame, then wait while your prescription travels somewhere else. At Mountain West Optical, both happen under the same roof. Our opticians help you find the right frame, then cut and finish your lenses on-site in our in-house lab.

Your glasses, built your way.
We're not a warehouse or a box store. When you come to Mountain West Optical, you have a say in every aspect of your new glasses: frame style, lens material, coatings, tint, and fit. We craft your lenses right here in our facility, so you won't be waiting extra time for shipping or rework.
Every pair comes with a 90-day prescription adjustment guarantee and a 2-year frame warranty. If something isn't right, we make it right. No runaround, no return shipping, no wait.

Built for how you actually live
Our in-house lab means we can build lenses to fit needs that most optical shops simply can't accommodate. Whether you need prescription lenses for a specific sport, a demanding work environment, or an unusual frame type, we can work with it.
Sport & Outdoor
Bike riding, motorcycle eyewear, ski goggles, swim goggles, golf glasses, and sports glasses. All available in prescription.
Safety & Ballistic
ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses and MIL-spec ballistic eyewear for work, law enforcement, military, and competitive shooting.
Specialty Use
Computer glasses to reduce digital eye strain, prescription scuba masks, and reading glasses in a wide range of powers and styles.
The right lens for your prescription
Every pair of glasses starts with the lens. We offer multiple lens materials, coatings, and types. Because we cut them in-house, we can talk through the tradeoffs with you in person before you commit.
Lens Materials
Composite
Incorporates polycarbonate, Trivex, and other ophthalmic materials. Extremely lightweight, impact-resistant, UV-blocking, and compatible with most protective coatings.
CR-39 / Mid-Index
The Everyday Standard
CR-39 plastic has been the optical industry benchmark for decades — excellent optical clarity, lightweight, and durable for moderate prescriptions. Mid-index steps up for stronger prescriptions, reducing lens thickness without a significant cost increase. The right choice for most patients who don't need specialty materials.
High / Ultra-High Index
For Strong Prescriptions
High-index (1.67) and ultra-high index (1.74) lenses are engineered to be as thin and light as possible for patients with significant prescriptions. Where standard lenses would be thick and heavy, high-index lenses remain cosmetically slim and comfortable. We fabricate these in-house, including prescriptions that other labs won't take on.
Lens Treatments
Scratch-Resistant
Protects against everyday scuffs from drops, cleaning, and storage. Especially recommended for children's glasses and can greatly extend the life of a pair of lenses.
Anti-Reflective
Blocks reflective light to reduce glare. Adds UV protection and a spot-resistant layer that makes lenses easier to clean than untreated lenses.
Transitions / Photochromic
Clear indoors, dark outdoors. Transitions are the leading photochromic lens — they adapt automatically to changing light conditions, eliminating the need to swap between prescription glasses and sunglasses. Available in multiple colors and compatible with most lens materials.
Blue Blocker
Filters high-energy blue light emitted by screens, LED lighting, and digital devices. Reduces eye strain during extended screen time and may improve sleep quality by reducing blue light exposure in the evening. One of the most requested lens treatments for patients who spend significant time in front of screens.
Tinting
Custom tint colors applied to your lenses for sun protection, sport performance, or style. We tint in-house, which means you can choose from a wide range of colors and densities — solid, gradient, or sport-specific tints optimized for specific light conditions.
Polarization
Eliminates horizontal glare from water, snow, and reflective surfaces. Polarized lenses are the standard for fishing, skiing, driving, and any outdoor activity where glare is a factor. Available in prescription across most lens materials.
Mirrors
Mirror coatings applied to the front surface of sunglass lenses for glare reduction and a bold aesthetic. Available in silver, gold, blue, and other finishes. Popular for ski, cycling, and tactical applications.
Lens Types
Digital / Freeform Progressives
No visible line. Seamless vision at all distances. Our progressives are digitally surfaced in-house using freeform technology, resulting in a wider field of vision and a shorter adaptation period than traditional progressives. The most natural-feeling multifocal lens available — and because we make them here, we can fine-tune the design to your prescription and frame choice.
Sport / Specialty
Prescription lenses built for how you actually use them. We fabricate lenses for ski goggles, sport frames, wrap-style sunglasses, ballistic eyewear, safety glasses, and frames with non-standard geometries. Most optical shops can't accommodate these jobs. We can — and we do them in-house.
Bifocals
Two prescriptions in one frame, near and far, separated by a visible line. A practical option for presbyopia without the adjustment period of progressives.
Single Vision
Corrects near or farsightedness. Used for reading, driving, and astigmatism prescriptions. Most common type and often ready same day.
